Takuro Shibata is a potter and the current director of STARworks Ceramics. He holds a degree in chemical engineering from Doshisha University in Kyoto. His background includes technical ceramic research including firing, developing and testing of clays and glaze. He has been a ceramics technical instructor at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Shigaraki Japan and has been a resident artist at the Peters Valley Crafts Education Center in Layton, NJ and the Cub Creek Foundation in Appomattox in VA.
Hitomi Akebi Shibata is a potter and instructor at STARworks Ceramics. She holds a Master of Education, Fine Arts and Crafts and has recently completed the residency program at the NC Pottery Center. She gained her undergraduate degree in Ceramics from Okayama National University. She has been a special grad student at The University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, under the Rotary International Scholarship in 2002. She has been a residency artist at many places including the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Shigraki Japan and the Cub Creek Foundation in Appomatox VA. Hitomi has also gone to England to research their ceramics under the Daiwa Foundation in 2005-2006.
Santiago Ramirez is the operation manager of STARworks. He is an experienced landscaper and versatile in handling tools and equipment. A native of the Yucatan, and the grandson of a potter, he is currently learning about ceramics.
